Alonnisos is the inhabited base for the National Marine Park of the Northern Sporades, created to protect Mediterranean monk seals, seabirds and marine habitats. Patitiri's information centre and responsible boat trips explain the ecosystem without promising wildlife encounters.
Old Alonnisos, or Chora, was rebuilt after the 1965 earthquake and now overlooks a pine-covered island of paths and coves. Steni Vala retains a small fishing harbour, while the underwater museum at the Peristera shipwreck adds pioneering dive access.

Ferries connect through Skiathos and Volos. Choose licensed marine-park operators, observe no-entry zones and book archaeological diving through authorised centres.
