Didymoteicho is a history-rich Thracian town with a castle hill, major Ottoman architecture and layers stretching back to Roman Plotinopolis.
The twin-walled castle hill dominates Didymoteicho and contains Byzantine churches, rock-cut spaces and views across the Evros plain. Nearby archaeological remains belong to Plotinopolis, a Roman city founded by Trajan.
The town also preserves exceptional Ottoman heritage, including the early fifteenth-century Çelebi Sultan Mehmed Mosque. Jewish, Armenian, Greek and Muslim histories all shaped this border region, rewarding visitors who look beyond a single period.
