Galaxidi is a preserved maritime town of neoclassical homes, small museums and waterfront tavernas within easy reach of Delphi.
Galaxidi's nineteenth-century shipowners built handsome houses along lanes scented with gardens and pine. The Maritime Museum and church of Agios Nikolaos explain a period when local sailing vessels traded throughout the Mediterranean.
Two natural harbours give the town a sheltered, reflective waterfront far calmer than a resort strip. Delphi is close enough for a day trip, but Galaxidi's evenings and nearby swimming coves justify an overnight stay.
Practical information
Buses are limited, so Galaxidi is easiest by car from Delphi, Athens or Patras. Park outside narrow old lanes and check museum hours.
