Why go

A broad harbour and practical base for exploring southern Karpathos.

Karpathos Town, also called Pigadia, is the island's port and service centre, with waterfront dining, museums and nearby beaches.

Pigadia curves around Vrontis Bay below low hills and archaeological traces of ancient Poseidio. The harbour, pedestrian waterfront and side streets hold the island's main concentration of shops, restaurants and transport.

The town is convenient rather than architecturally preserved like Olympos. It works well for boats to northern beaches, buses to villages and easy swimming at Afoti, while evenings stay lively around the marina.

Practical information

The airport is south of town and ferries use the central port. Buses are seasonal; reserve a car for mountain villages and allow a full day for Olympos.
