Why go

White cliffs, wind sports and mountain villages reached without a ferry.

Lefkada links to the mainland by bridge, offering dramatic west-coast beaches, sheltered sailing waters and a green interior of villages and waterfalls.

Lefkada's west coast drops into the Ionian in pale cliffs above Porto Katsiki, Egremni and Kathisma. The east is gentler, with marinas and protected waters around Nidri and the Meganisi channel. Vasiliki has become a major windsurfing base.

Inland, roads climb through olive groves to villages, monasteries and the waterfalls near Nidri. Lefkada Town's wooden and corrugated-metal architecture reflects rebuilding after earthquakes. The island's bridge access makes it popular, but distances still demand planning.

Practical information

Drive across the floating bridge from Aetolia-Acarnania; Aktion Airport is nearby. West-coast access can change after rockfalls, so follow closures and avoid cliff edges.
