Makrinitsa is one of Pelion's best-known villages, with a plane-shaded square, frescoed fountain, mansions and sweeping gulf views.
Makrinitsa climbs steeply through stone lanes and archontika mansions towards a main square shaded by enormous plane trees. The marble fountain bears a folk painting by Theophilos, and terraces open to broad views over Volos.
The village rewards a slow walk beyond the central shops, where churches and residential lanes reveal traditional Pelion building methods. It pairs naturally with nearby Portaria but has a distinct, more dramatic setting.
Practical information
Cars park outside the pedestrian centre. Steps are steep and slippery in rain; visit early on weekends and keep delivery and resident access clear.
