Mathraki is a tiny inhabited island west of Corfu, with a long east-coast beach, scattered homes and very limited visitor services.
Mathraki's low interior is crossed by lanes between olives, cypress and small settlements. Portello beach runs along the east coast with shallow water, while the western side faces a rougher open Ionian sea.
There is no busy village centre and only a handful of seasonal businesses. The island appeals to travellers comfortable with self-sufficiency, walking and the quiet of a community spread across the landscape.
