Paleo Trikeri is a small inhabited island off Pelion, with a quiet harbour, olive paths and a monastery carrying women's-exile history.
Paleo Trikeri has no roads or cars, only footpaths between the harbour settlement, coves and the Monastery of Evangelistria. The island's olive-covered slopes and sheltered gulf water create an unusually gentle landscape.
During the Greek Civil War era, the monastery was used to confine women political prisoners, adding a difficult modern history to the peaceful site. A visit should hold both realities.
Practical information
Small boats cross from Alogoporos and seasonal routes may run from Trikeri. Bring cash and water, check the last boat and respect monastery hours.
