Portaria is an accessible Pelion village above Volos, known for restored mansions, the Centaurs' Path and year-round mountain hospitality.
Portaria grew wealthy through trade and textile production, leaving large stone mansions now used as guesthouses. Springs run through the village, and the short Centaurs' Path follows water beneath plane trees.
The village has broad restaurant and lodging choice and stays active in winter. Nearby Makrinitsa offers bigger views, while roads continue over Pelion towards Aegean villages and beaches.
Practical information
Buses run from Volos, though a car is useful for wider Pelion. Weekend parking is tight; winter visitors should carry chains when required.
