Rhodes combines the UNESCO-listed Old Town, Lindos and Kamiros with mountain villages, wine country, family resorts and exposed wind-sports beaches.
Rhodes Town preserves one of Europe's most complete medieval walled cities, shaped by the Knights of Saint John and later Ottoman life. South along the coast, Lindos rises below its ancient acropolis, while Kamiros and Ialysos reveal other major classical centres.
The island is large enough for several landscapes. Mount Attavyros and Embonas anchor wine country, the east has sheltered resort beaches, and Prasonisi meets strong winds at the southern tip. Villages and inland roads give Rhodes depth beyond its headline monuments.
Practical information
Rhodes has an international airport and major ferry port. Buses cover main towns and resorts; rent a car for the interior and allow far more time than the island map suggests.
