Siatista preserves richly decorated merchant houses, churches and a wine tradition shaped by trade routes across the Balkans.
Eighteenth- and nineteenth-century merchants built Siatista's grand archontika, with carved woodwork, stained glass and interior paintings. The Poulko and Nerantzis mansions are among the strongest surviving examples.
The town also developed wine and fur trades, and local cellars continue to make sun-dried styles from regional grapes. Hillside neighbourhoods and churches reward a guided architectural walk.
Practical information
Siatista is easiest by car from Kozani or Grevena. Historic houses keep limited hours; arrange visits and tastings ahead, especially outside festivals.
