Skiathos Town is the island's transport and nightlife centre, with twin waterfronts, Papadiamantis heritage and easy buses to the south-coast beaches.
The Bourtzi peninsula divides Skiathos Town's old and new harbours, creating two long waterfront walks. White lanes climb behind the quay to churches, bars and the modest house museum of writer Alexandros Papadiamantis.
Excursion boats, ferries and restaurants keep the port busy by day; bars around the old harbour take over after dark. Staying on quieter upper lanes balances access with sleep.
Practical information
The airport is extremely close and ferries dock centrally. The beach bus starts near the port; reserve taxis sparingly and expect aircraft noise in parts of town.
