Skopelos

Green mountains, chapel-crowned rocks and a strong island food tradition.

Skopelos is the most forested Sporades island, with two handsome harbour towns, many chapels, quiet coves and celebrated cheese pie.

Pine forest covers much of Skopelos, often reaching directly to pebble beaches such as Milia and Kastani. Skopelos Town rises in tiled houses and churches, while Glossa overlooks the western coast above Loutraki port.

Agios Ioannis chapel stands on a dramatic rock reached by steep steps, made famous through film but rooted in local worship. The island's twisted cheese pie, prunes and home cooking give it a culinary identity beyond scenery.

Practical information

Ferries use Skopelos Town, Loutraki or Agnontas depending on route and wind. Confirm the port, drive cautiously and avoid blocking chapel or village access.
