The town's architecture mixes white walls with dark tiled roofs and wooden balconies, reflecting northern rather than Cycladic traditions. Lanes rise past numerous churches to the remains of the Venetian castle and views across the port.
The waterfront provides ferry access, restaurants and boats, but residential upper streets preserve a calmer rhythm. Local workshops and bakeries offer ceramics, knives, prunes and Skopelitiki cheese pie.
Practical information
