A for Art Design Hotel

A characterful design hotel in a restored early-20th-century building, steps from the ancient agora, with a lively garden, two restaurants and a small pool.

Our take

Art, history and a secret garden in the middle of Limenas

A for Art turns one of central Limenas’s historic buildings into something far less predictable than a standard island hotel. The preserved early-20th-century exterior opens onto theatrical contemporary interiors filled with art, colour and playful furniture. Location is the practical triumph: the archaeological museum and ancient agora are almost next door, the old harbour is around the corner and the ferry can be reached without a taxi. A leafy back garden holds the compact pool, bars and dining tables, while a generous breakfast and two restaurants make the hotel more than a place to sleep after exploring town.

The exuberant design will delight some guests and feel busy to minimalists. Standard doubles are fairly compact, the old building has no lift, and there is no hotel car park; paid spaces are available off site, but arriving drivers should ask for current directions. The sociable garden hosts dinners and occasional music, so light sleepers should request a quieter room rather than assuming silence in such a central address. Nor is this a beach hotel, despite the sea being close. A for Art is Thasos’s strongest full-service town hotel for travellers who prefer atmosphere, food and archaeology on the doorstep to a resort behind gates.
