Agalia Luxury Suites

A highly personal 19-room hideaway near Tzamaria, pairing oversized suites and villas with sunset views, an enormous pool and unusually attentive family-friendly service.

Our take

An artful suite retreat above Ios’s quieter western beaches

Agalia feels more like a small design estate than a conventional resort. Nineteen individually styled rooms, suites and villas spread across the slope above Tzamaria, using stone, carved surfaces and bold handcrafted details rather than generic Cycladic minimalism. The main 178-square-metre pool has room to breathe, while selected suites and multi-bedroom villas add private pools, kitchens or expansive terraces. Taste of Joy serves Mediterranean cooking throughout the day, and a gym, yoga sessions, massages, complimentary port transfers and babysitting make the hotel workable for both couples and families. Tzamaria Beach is a few minutes away on foot, with Koumpara and Yialos also close.

This is a retreat first and a base for nightlife second. Chora and Mylopotas are short drives rather than spontaneous walks, and the steep, layered site has no lift. Guests with limited mobility should discuss the exact suite position before paying, while families need to check terrace and pool safety for their particular room. Category names cover very different products, from a double room to a large villa, so photographs and floor plans matter more than the headline label. Expedia rates Agalia 9.8 from 69 reviews, with especially strong service and condition scores. Choose it for privacy, space and sunsets; choose Liostasi when walking into Chora matters more.
