Eight grand rooms and a private way into the Aegean
Hotel Ploes gives Ermoupoli’s neoclassical grandeur a rare sense of intimacy. The eight-room hotel occupies a 150-year-old mansion in Vaporia, filled with Venetian chandeliers, handmade rugs, marble bathrooms and a serious collection of modern Greek art. Sea-facing rooms look directly across the Aegean, while the paved terrace below the house provides sunbeds and steps into deep water. Breakfast and drinks are served at the waterfront café-bar, and Miaouli Square, the Apollon Theatre and Agios Nikolaos are only a couple of minutes away. Few Syros hotels combine town life and a morning swim so convincingly.
Ploes is not a conventional beach or resort hotel. Its swimming platform meets open water rather than sand, there is no pool, and the historic building’s eight rooms differ substantially in size, outlook and bathroom features. City-view categories miss the main visual reason to stay, while the large hammam suite commands a very different price from a standard double. Central parking and luggage handling should be agreed before arrival rather than assumed to happen at the front door. The hotel operates seasonally, from early April to mid-October in 2026. Expedia’s 10.0 rating from 21 reviews is small but flawless. Ploes is Syros’s most romantic heritage stay for travellers comfortable paying for character and sea access.
