Ilion Hotel

A wonderfully personal stone hotel tucked beneath Nafpaktos Castle, pairing memorable Gulf views and an excellent included breakfast with easy access to the Venetian harbour.

Our take

Old-town character and the finest harbour views

Ilion turns Nafpaktos’s steep old town into the best part of the stay. Its traditional stone buildings climb across four levels below the castle walls, opening broad views over the tiled roofs, Venetian harbour, Gulf of Corinth and Rio–Antirrio Bridge. The port and Psani waterfront are only about 150 metres away, albeit downhill, so restaurants and evening walks remain close without sacrificing the sense of a hidden hillside address. Double, twin, superior and family rooms cover the main needs, while balconies and terraces make the panorama more than a view glimpsed at breakfast. That breakfast is included and repeatedly singled out by guests, and free parking removes one of the old town’s larger practical worries once the car is in place.

The same topography that creates Ilion’s magic is its main limitation. Expect stone steps between levels and a sustained climb back from the port; this is a poor fit for limited mobility unless the hotel confirms a suitable room and access route. Driving through the old quarter means narrow cobbled streets, and reaching the parking area can feel awkward in a larger vehicle. There is no pool, lift, full restaurant or spa, and some standard rooms are compact despite their generous outlook. Exact views also depend on category, so “old town” should not be treated as a guarantee of the hotel’s most cinematic balcony. Expedia rates Ilion 9.8 from 68 reviews, Nafpaktos’s strongest substantial score and exceptional evidence for a small independent hotel. Choose it for atmosphere, hosts and breakfast; choose Nafs for level beach access and a pool.
