Mystras Grand Palace Resort & Spa

A beautifully maintained country resort between Sparta and Mystras, with two outdoor pools, excellent sport and spa facilities and enough space for an easy family stay.

Our take

Pools, tennis and polished comfort beneath the Taygetos peaks

Mystras Grand Palace spreads through olive and orange trees on the plain below Taygetos, using low stone buildings and tiled roofs to feel settled into the landscape rather than imposed upon it. Rooms are generous, service is notably attentive and the breakfast makes a convincing case for lingering before sightseeing. Two outdoor pools, a children’s pool, four clay tennis courts, a gym and the Karam Spa turn it into a proper holiday base, not merely a comfortable stop beside the Byzantine ruins. Families have room to decompress, while couples can retreat to the quieter corners of the grounds.

The scale and location require a little planning. Mystras archaeological site and central Sparta are short drives rather than walks, and the outdoor pools close through winter; a car is the practical choice. Conferences and weddings occasionally bring a busier atmosphere, so light sleepers may want a room away from event areas. Travellers focused exclusively on wellness may prefer the more specialised Euphoria Retreat nearby. Mystras Grand Palace is the area’s best full-service family and activity resort for guests who want pools, tennis, restaurants and dependable five-star comfort alongside—rather than inside—the region’s historic towns.
