On 10 June 1944, Waffen-SS troops murdered 218 civilians in Distomo. The museum centres the victims and community through photographs, names, testimony and archival material, placing the atrocity within the German occupation and the long pursuit of remembrance and justice. This is not a general war collection or a dramatic attraction. Give the people represented enough time to remain individuals rather than reducing the visit to a statistic.
Confirm opening directly because local museum hours can be limited, and allow at least an hour without placing a lunch deadline immediately afterward. The hilltop mausoleum is a separate memorial visit with a steep approach. Speak quietly, do not pose with exhibits or remains and ask before photographing testimony. Content is distressing and adults should prepare younger visitors.
