Follow the Erkyna from working town to shaded gorge and read the oracle through surviving water, rock and ritual memory
Walk upstream beside the Erkyna as traffic and shops give way to plane trees, stone paths and the cold water of Krya. Former mills and channels show the river's practical use, while niches in the gorge and the remembered springs of Lethe and Mnemosyne connect the site with consultations at the oracle of Trophonius. The underground chamber described in antiquity does not survive as a complete attraction, so use the landscape and interpretation rather than expecting an intact temple complex.
Allow two hours before a meal beside the river. The route is free and flexible, but stone can be slick after rain, frost or spray. Some sections are step-free while bridges and upper paths are not; visitors with mobility needs should approach from the broad lower promenade and turn back when paving narrows. Do not enter fenced cavities or climb rock-cut features. Summer evenings are busy with residents, while early morning offers cooler air and clearer views of the water.
