Read Leonidio's mercantile confidence inside a fortified early nineteenth-century mansion
Built in 1808, the Tsikaliotis Tower shows that Leonidio's grand houses were designed for security as well as display. Its compact fortified form, decorated interiors and surviving defensive features provide a useful anchor for understanding the other mansions seen from the street. Periodic exhibitions add another reason to enter, but the building itself is the principal subject.
Public access is not continuous, so confirm an opening or event before structuring the day around the interior. When it is closed, include the exterior in a respectful architecture walk and keep entrances clear. Steps and historic thresholds may limit access; ask the operator about the current route rather than assuming a lift. Do not photograph private neighbouring courtyards or treat residential lanes as an open-air set.
