Mushrooms get the first course
Ambrosia uses a compact modern room beside the Hellenic Culture Museum, with outdoor tables that catch a slice of the Meteora rocks between town buildings. Fried mushrooms with teriyaki, oven lamb, moussaka and lamb chops give regional fungi equal billing with familiar mountain meat.
Portions are generous and the tomato-sauced beef can run dry. Start with one mushroom plate, ask which oven meat retains the most juice and reserve for dinner; the restaurant closes Thursday but otherwise serves noon to 11pm.
