Gerousia

Gerousia is a historic central café and sweet shop, useful for breakfast, post-walk sugar or a light meal without leaving Stemnitsa's square.

Our take

Coffee, handmade sweets and small plates on the village square

Gerousia has occupied the central square since the nineteenth century and still makes sense as the village's everyday meeting point. Coffee comes with handmade sweets such as orange cake, galaktoboureko, diples or baklava, while pies, small plates, local wine and tsipouro can turn the stop into a light lunch. It is especially well placed before or after the Menalon Trail.

Do not assume every sweet is available every day; ask what has been made and choose from the counter. Nuts, dairy, eggs and gluten are common, so discuss allergies before ordering and remember that shared preparation surfaces may matter. Weekend crowds can fill the square quickly, while quieter seasons bring reduced hours. If using Gerousia before a hike or transfer, check service time rather than ordering against a fixed departure.
