Step from merchant architecture into the older sacred art of Geraneia's principal church
Agia Paraskevi anchors the Geraneia neighbourhood and predates the most famous mansions. The seventeenth-century basilica holds a gilded carved iconostasis and extensive painting; figures such as Aristotle, Plato and Solon in the women's gallery make the decoration especially worth interpreting with a knowledgeable local rather than simply photographing from the doorway.
This remains an active Orthodox church, not a museum with guaranteed visitor hours. Check locally, avoid services unless attending respectfully and dress with shoulders and knees covered. Ask before taking any photographs, switch off sound and never use flash. The later bell tower is easy to appreciate from the square, while interior thresholds, steps and gallery access may not suit every visitor.
