A stone railway bridge best understood on foot
The De Chirico Bridge carries the narrow-gauge Pelion line across a wooded ravine near Milies. Its masonry, curve and relationship with the tiny track show why the railway is more interesting than a nostalgic ride alone. The line was engineered by Evaristo de Chirico, father of painter Giorgio de Chirico, and the bridge now forms a memorable point on walks that follow sections of the old railway.
Reach it on foot using a current local route rather than walking blindly along operational track. Stone, ballast and approaches can be slippery after rain, and there are unprotected drops around the ravine. Keep children close, do not stand on the rails when a service could operate and carry water. The bridge is worthwhile even when the tourist train is not running, but path conditions should be checked after storms.
