Afyssos's broad gulf beach for an easy village day
Abovos lies just beyond Afyssos and provides more room than the small waterfront coves inside the village. The shore is predominantly shingle and pebble, with seasonal organised sections and enough open space to choose your own position. The Pagasetic Gulf usually produces gentler swimming than eastern Pelion, while Afyssos supplies food, cafés and an attractive evening walk without another mountain drive.
Calm does not mean supervised or risk-free. Check flags, ask about lifeguard coverage and keep children clear of boats and deeper water. Shingle can be uncomfortable underfoot, so water shoes may help. The road through Afyssos is narrow and busy in high season; park in designated areas rather than blocking residents, or walk from village accommodation. Seating policies and business opening dates change across the season.
