A cliff-built monastery on the high road from Leonidio to Kosmas
Elona appears beneath an overhang roughly midway between Leonidio and Kosmas, its white buildings set against the red cliff. The active women's monastery is dedicated to the Dormition and remains an important place of pilgrimage, not simply a viewpoint. Enter quietly, observe the church before focusing on the panorama and leave room for worshippers, especially around August and November feast dates.
The road climbs through the Dafnon gorge with bends and exposed sections. Do not attempt it in poor visibility, ice or severe weather, and let the more confident driver take the wheel. Parking is below the complex and the final approach includes steps and slopes; ask locally about access if mobility is limited. Cover shoulders and knees, check visiting hours that morning and avoid drones or intrusive photography without explicit permission.
