Attica’s final headland, approached slowly
The Temple of Poseidon stands on the headland where sailors entered or left the waters of Attica. Its surviving Doric columns belong to a mid-fifth-century BC sanctuary, and the position explains the monument as clearly as any label: sea surrounds the cape on three sides, while the route back to Athens stretches north along the coast.
Come with a licensed guide before the final rush for sunset, then stay as the light drops if the official closing time permits. A private driver is more valuable than a rushed packaged stop because the coastal road, parking and return can be paced around conditions. The exposed site can be windy and offers limited shade; confirm hours and any heat-related closures on the official channel, use secure footwear and do not schedule a fixed city dinner immediately after the return.
