Treat Potami as a wet gorge outing, not a dry-footed extension of the beach
The route begins near Potami beach and enters a green ravine that feels far removed from Samos's exposed coast. A Byzantine church provides an early cultural stop before the path reaches water, pools and the first cascade. Continuing often means wading or swimming through cool water rather than following a continuous dry trail. Water volume changes through the year, so images from spring may not match late summer.
Wear footwear that can grip wet rock and secure everything that must stay dry. Do not continue after heavy rain, when flash flow and falling material can make the gorge dangerous. Depth, ladders and improvised crossings may be unsuitable for children, weak swimmers or limited mobility. Go with another person, keep enough energy for the return and ask locally about current conditions. The nearby beach is a separate stop, not proof that the gorge is safe.
