Samos Wine Museum

The UWC Samos museum occupies a former winery at Malagari and explains island viticulture through tools, vats, records and guided tastings.

Our take

Taste Muscat after learning why terraces, growers and cooperative cellars matter

Samos wine makes more sense after seeing the labour behind it. The cooperative museum uses old presses, barrel-making tools, photographs and large wooden tanks to connect the island's steep Muscat terraces with vinification and export. A guided tasting can compare dry and sweet expressions rather than reducing Samian wine to one dessert bottle. The cooperative history also shows how growers organised around a difficult mountain crop.

Current tour times, languages and tasting formats should be reserved or confirmed with UWC Samos, particularly for groups and outside high season. The museum is in Malagari near Vathy, not in the mountain vineyards themselves. Drivers should arrange a non-drinking driver or use a taxi; a small tasting still contains alcohol. Ask about step-free access before booking if needed, and never enter working winery areas beyond the marked museum route.
