Put the ancient city back around modern Pythagoreio before walking its scattered remains
Modern Pythagoreio covers much of the ancient city, so isolated walls can feel disconnected without this museum. Displays trace settlement, public life, burial and sculpture through objects recovered locally, while the adjacent archaeological area preserves streets and buildings. Visit before the Tunnel of Eupalinos or Heraion and the engineering, political power and religious wealth of ancient Samos begin to form one story.
Ministry hours and closure days can change by season or staffing; check the official culture listing on the day rather than relying on a map app. Allow at least ninety minutes for the museum and outside remains. The modern building is more accessible than many island collections, but confirm lifts and accessible routes if essential. Avoid scheduling the museum, tunnel and Heraion too tightly: each has separate entry rules, and summer heat slows the outdoor sections.
