Tarambados Dovecotes Trail

A gentle walking landscape around Tarambados, known for elaborate stone dovecotes built into terraced valleys.

Our take

Read Tinos through its ornate rural architecture

Tinos has hundreds of dovecotes, but the valley near Tarambados provides one of the clearest concentrations. Their geometric slate patterns are decorative and practical, creating openings for birds while announcing the status and skill of their builders. Seen on foot among terraces and dry-stone walls, they explain how carefully the island’s rural land was organised.

Use a current local route map or guide because paths and access can change. Do not enter private structures or fields, close any gates you pass and avoid midday heat. The walk is about the whole worked landscape, not locating a single “best” dovecote.
