A sandy town-edge beach cooled by a freshwater river
Almyros sits just south of Agios Nikolaos where a short freshwater river crosses reeds and reaches the sea. The broad sandy entry and convenient facilities suit families, while the wetland edge gives the beach a softer landscape than the town's rockier coves.
Water near the river mouth can be distinctly cooler and the mixing current should be treated with respect. Use designated crossings rather than trampling reeds, and keep children within the supervised zone. The walk from town is possible but exposed, so a local bus or taxi is more comfortable in peak heat.
