Bright sand and turquoise shallows in Mirabello Bay
Voulisma occupies a scalloped bay at Istron, where pale sand and a light seabed give the water an unusually bright turquoise tone. The beach is compact enough to feel busy quickly, but road access, buses and managed facilities make it one of eastern Crete's simplest scenic swims.
Stairs and sloping paths connect parking areas to the sand, and the return climb is exposed to afternoon heat. Arrive early for space, keep to swimming zones around rental craft and check wind conditions: easterly weather can send waves directly into the bay despite its enclosed appearance.
