A sandy hook between Keramoti, lagoon and open sea
The name means “sand tongue”, an accurate description of the narrow shore extending beyond Keramoti. One side faces the open Thracian Sea and Thasos, while the inner side meets calmer water and the wider Nestos delta environment.
Currents strengthen toward the tip and ferries use the nearby channel, so swimming around the point is unsafe. Stay within marked areas, keep away from nesting or fenced habitat and park in town rather than driving onto sand. Mosquito protection is useful around the lagoon at dusk.
