Apella Beach

A steep-sided cove on Karpathos’ east coast, reached by winding road or boat and framed by pale rock, pines and intensely clear sea.

Our take

Karpathos limestone and pine above clear water

Apella has the dramatic geology people travel to Karpathos for, but its beauty comes with limited space and a demanding approach. The final road is winding; seasonal boats offer an alternative without guaranteeing a calm landing.

Travel early, use official parking and keep the turnaround clear. Bring water, shade and suitable footwear for hot stones. Check wind and boat advice in Pigadia before committing, since conditions can differ sharply around the island. A full beach day is enough—do not combine Apella with a rushed drive to Olympos.
