Red cliffs and archaeological layers above a clear bay
Kokkinokastro takes its name from the red headland above the beach, where archaeological remains point to long occupation. The contrast between ochre cliff, pale pebble and blue water is distinctive even by Alonnisos standards.
Keep away from crumbly cliff bases and do not disturb or remove archaeological material. The bay becomes deep quickly; use water shoes and supervise children. Seasonal facilities occupy the main access while quieter pebble remains toward the edges.
