Gavdos's most practical sandy bay
Sarakiniko is the easiest Gavdos beach to use as a base: a long sandy arc, shallow-looking entry and a small cluster of tavernas, rooms and seasonal transport. It feels remote by mainland standards but comparatively connected on an island where many beaches require long walks.
Gavdos ferry sailings change with weather, and a beach day must never be planned tighter than the return connection allows. Shade and services remain seasonal, mobile coverage is uneven, and the bay can become rough in north or northeast wind. Bring cash and essential medication rather than assuming every business takes cards or stays open.
