Xerokampos Beach

Xerokampos rewards a long, winding drive with pale sand and scattered coves, but limited services and exposed weather require a self-sufficient visit.

Our take

Remote southeastern bays beyond a mountain road

Xerokampos is not one single beach but a loose chain of sandy bays, dunes and rocky inlets on Crete's sparsely settled southeast coast. The pale main beaches have clear, shallow-looking water, while smaller coves offer different shelter and footing.

Every approach involves a long mountain road with tight bends, few fuel options and little roadside shade. Carry water, food and sun protection even if a seasonal taverna is open. Strong east or south wind reaches the coast directly, and mobile coverage can be inconsistent between coves.
