Anafi offers a single whitewashed Chora, uncrowded southern beaches and a demanding walk to the monastery above the Kalamos monolith.
Anafi lies east of Santorini but feels far from its neighbour's crowds. Chora spreads across a hillside above the port, while footpaths and a seasonal beach boat link the sandy coves along the south coast.
The island's great landmark is Kalamos, a massive limestone monolith rising above the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi. The climb to the upper monastery is steep and exposed, but the landscape explains Anafi's appeal: elemental, spacious and lightly developed.
Practical information
Ferry schedules are limited and often involve late-night arrivals. There is no airport; book rooms around Chora, carry water on walks and allow a weather buffer.
