Amorgos Chora is a high, beautifully preserved village of chapels, hidden squares, windmills and late-night tavernas.
Chora sits inland beneath a rocky Venetian kastro, protected from both wind and historic raiders. Whitewashed lanes twist between dozens of small churches, old wells and shaded plateies, while a line of windmills follows the ridge above.
The village stays quiet through the morning and becomes sociable after sunset, when tavernas and small bars fill without losing their scale. It is the natural base for the Hozoviotissa Monastery and paths across central Amorgos.
Practical information
Buses connect Chora with Katapola, Aegiali and Hozoviotissa. Cars park outside the pedestrian centre; expect steps and cooler evenings than at the ports.
