Whitewashed hill lanes with churches, views and energetic nights.
Ios Chora combines a classic Cycladic hillside settlement with a concentrated summer nightlife scene and paths to windmills and panoramic chapels.
Chora climbs steeply from the road above Ormos port, its lanes threading between white churches, small squares and the remains of a Venetian castle. The windmills and the churches of Agios Nikolaos and Panagia Gremiotissa give the best late-day views.
After dark, the compact centre becomes one of the Cyclades' busiest nightlife hubs. Staying just outside the core offers easier sleep, while daytime walks reveal a much quieter village and quick access to Mylopotas beach.
Practical information
Frequent buses link the port, Chora and Mylopotas. Expect steep steps, keep noise in mind when choosing accommodation and never use unlit roads on foot after drinking.
