Donousa

Footpaths, clear bays and a small-community rhythm in the Lesser Cyclades.

Donousa is a compact island for walkers and swimmers, with four settlements, quiet coves and a ferry-linked harbour at Stavros.

Stavros gathers most accommodation around a sandy bay, while marked paths lead to Kalotaritissa, Mersini and the beach at Livadi. The island's low hills and old agricultural tracks make walking part of daily travel rather than a separate activity.

Donousa has no landmark checklist. Its appeal lies in clean water, small tavernas and the relationship between village and coast. The sea caves at Fokospilia and the Wall Cave are best approached with a responsible local boat operator in calm conditions.

Practical information

Ferries connect Donousa with Naxos and the Small Cyclades, but schedules vary sharply by season. There is limited transport and no bank; carry cash and travel light.
