Cave walks, unhurried villages and open horizons in the Small Cyclades.
Irakleia is a low-key island of two settlements, walking paths, a large cave and clear bays with little organised development.
Agios Georgios is the ferry port and main beach village, while Panagia sits inland beneath the island's highest slopes. Footpaths cross old farmland and lead towards the Cave of Agios Ioannis, one of the largest in the Cyclades.
The scale encourages slow routines: breakfast by the quay, a walk before the heat and swimming at Livadi or Tourkopigado. Irakleia has fewer services than nearby Naxos, and that simplicity should shape expectations.
Practical information
Small Cyclades ferries connect Irakleia with Naxos and neighbouring islands. The cave route is rough and poorly lit; go with local guidance and carry a proper torch.
