A three-part harbour village and natural base for central Amorgos.
Katapola is Amorgos's broad southern port, combining waterfront tavernas, the ancient site of Minoa and boat access to nearby coves.
Katapola Bay holds three linked settlements: the ferry quay, quieter Rachidi and Xylokeratidi with its fishing boats and tavernas. The protected harbour has served travellers since antiquity, and the remains of Minoa occupy the hill above.
The port is a practical base for Chora and Hozoviotissa, while small boats and paths reach Maltezi and Plakes beaches. Even on ferry days, walking to the far side of the bay reveals a calmer village atmosphere.
Practical information
Some Amorgos ferries use Aegiali instead, so verify the arrival port. Buses meet major sailings and connect Katapola with Chora and the north.
