Walkable shores and luminous water in the Small Cyclades.
Ano Koufonisi concentrates sandy beaches, a sociable Chora and coastal paths into a tiny island easily explored without a car.
Most visitors mean Ano Koufonisi, the inhabited island where Chora meets a bright harbour and a chain of beaches extends east. Finikas, Fanos and Pori can be reached on foot, with rock pools and sea-carved inlets along the coastal path.
Kato Koufonisi is largely uninhabited and reached by summer boat for beaches and a seasonal taverna. The islands' popularity now strains their small scale, so water use, waste and respectful behaviour matter.
Practical information
Ferries connect from Naxos and other Small Cyclades islands. No car is needed; book early, carry refillable water and avoid entering sea caves when swell is present.
