Milos is a geologically restless Cycladic island of white coves, colourful fishing settlements, ancient catacombs and sailing routes to Kleftiko.
Volcanic activity and centuries of mining gave Milos an extraordinary range of rock and colour. Sarakiniko's white formations, the layered cliffs at Firiplaka and the mineral coast around Paleochori look entirely different, while the Mining Museum in Adamas explains the industry behind the scenery.
Klima and other syrmata settlements place boat houses directly at the waterline. Above them lie early Christian catacombs, an ancient theatre and the discovery site of the Venus de Milo. A full-island sailing trip reveals Kleftiko and the inaccessible west, but strong wind can reshape any plan.
Practical information
Milos has an airport and ferry port at Adamas. Buses cover main villages and beaches; rent an appropriate vehicle for rough western roads and never ignore closure or mining signs.
