Windmills, fashion and late nights in a labyrinth built for the Aegean.
Mykonos Town, or Chora, brings whitewashed lanes, Little Venice, museums, restaurants and world-famous nightlife into a compact pedestrian centre.
Chora was built as a maze of narrow lanes around the old harbour. The windmills and balconies of Little Venice define its western edge, while Panagia Paraportiani, the Archaeological Museum and small maritime collections reveal a deeper island history.
Boutiques, galleries, cocktail bars and restaurants transform the lanes after sunset. The energy can be exhilarating, but the busiest corridors become congested. Quieter discoveries remain possible early in the morning and around the residential edges beyond Matogianni.
Practical information
Vehicles stop outside the old centre. Sea buses link the new port, buses leave Fabrika and Old Port stations, and taxis are scarce; keep ferry-transfer time generous.
