Naxos Town combines the island's ferry hub with an atmospheric castle quarter, archaeology, waterfront dining and direct access to Agios Georgios beach.
The unfinished Temple of Apollo, known as the Portara, stands on an islet beside the harbour and frames the sunset. Behind the waterfront, Bourgos lanes climb into the Venetian kastro, where old mansions, Catholic institutions and museums preserve the layered history of the duchy.
Naxos Town works well without a car. Agios Georgios beach begins at the southern edge, buses leave for the west coast and mountain villages, and restaurants range from harbour tavernas to modern kitchens using Naxian cheese and produce.
Practical information
Ferries dock beside the centre and the airport is a short drive away. The kastro has steep steps; book port transfers only when luggage or mobility makes them necessary.
